Drawing Birds...and other stuff

I am sitting in my studio gazing out the window. The room is located on the third floor of our house. It is a converted space the previous owners thankfully renovated for use as an office instead of unused attic space.

I have come to find that some places are sacred and they should be kept this way. The studio is my island of creativity, an oasis in the otherwise chaotic storm of parenting, quarantining and starting a business as an artist in uncertain times...(are there any times other than the oncertain ones?)

One thing this storm has given me is the time to focus in on what inspires me as an artist and find my little corner of the universe in which I may stitch together my own style and image. I call on nature to do this most often and it would be the birds who fascinate and catch my eye and my imagination the most.

Birds are often background noise to people or little flicks of color seen but not processed. A flash from the corner of your eye. I often find that a bird can be the most wonderful form of meditation. Sitting silent we watch to see what they will do or listen to their song and hope to glean it's meaning. Sometimes there are alarm calls, maybe a hawk is near. Sometimes they are beautiful happy songs that seem to bring harmony to the world around them.

Birds are interesting subjects. They don't give you much time to capture their essence, but for those willing to sit and observe, silently, after a time you may be graced with a feathered friend or two who is just as curious about you.
